The new Brightwood / Lincoln Elementary School consolidates two existing schools to accommodate 800 students from Pre-K to grade 5. The school has been designed as two separate schools maintaining their individual identity with 400 students each in one building with a shared cafeteria, gym and service area. Each school has its own administration, administration spaces, separate entrances, play areas and parking for 150 cars in two parking lots.

New sidewalks, crosswalks and signals have been installed along Plainfield Ave to support a large walker population. Separate drop-off areas for buses and cars remove traffic from the existing streets. Each school has its own playground and separate play areas for Pre-K students. Raised planter support urban agriculture within the community. A soccer field has been constructed for school and community use. Brown + Sardina’s scope included building siting, roadways, parking, play areas, plazas, grading, planting and the design of all site amenities.
